Exploring Solar and Wind Energy as a Power Generation Source for Solving the Electricity Crisis in Libya

Abstract: The current study is focused on the economic and financial assessments of solar and wind power potential for nine selected regions in Libya for the first time. As the existing meteorological data, including wind speed and global solar radiation, are extremely limited due to the civil war in the country, it was therefore decided to use the NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) database as a source of meteorological information to assess the wind and solar potential. The results showed that the co… Show more

“…The highest and lowest annual values of global horizontal irradiation in Northern Cyprus are estimated at 2000 kWh/m 2 and 1800 kWh/m 2 , respectively. These values indicate that the solar resource is classified as Energies 2021, 14, 7627 3 of 27 good (class 4) and excellent (class 5) according to Kassem et al [21] and Prăvălie et al [22]. Additionally, the maximum and minimum values of direct normal irradiation are about 2230 kWh/m 2 and 1710 kWh/m 2 , respectively.…”

“…The performance metamaterials are widely used in various fields due to their unique electromagnetic properties, such as metamaterial lenses [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], invisibility cloaks [ 4 , 5 ], surface sensors [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ], wave absorbers [ 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 ], energy harvesters [ 16 ], etc. It is especially noteworthy that the energy crisis has brought new challenges and opportunities to all countries around the world [ 17 , 18 ], and solar energy has quickly won the favor of researchers because of its unique advantages. The research data show that the spectrum of solar energy radiation to the earth’s surface is mainly distributed in the range of 295–2500 nm, and nearly half of the energy is mainly concentrated in the visible region [ 19 ].…”
