Expression and distribution of tuberoinfundibular peptide of 39 residues in the rat central nervous system

Abstract: Tuberoinfundibular peptide of 39 residues (TIP39) has been recently purified and identified as a selective ligand for the parathyroid hormone 2 receptor. As a next step toward understanding its functions, we report the expression and distribution of TIP39 in the rat central nervous system. In situ hybridization histochemistry and immunocytochemistry revealed TIP39-containing cell bodies in three distinct areas. The major one comprises the subparafascicular area posterior through the intralaminar nucleus of the… Show more

“…A ligand of PTH2R is a tuberoinfundibular peptide (TIP) isolated from bovine hypothalamus [42,43]. As both TIP and PTH2R are strongly expressed in the hypothalamus, it was considered that TIP acts on the nervous system in mammals [43,44]. In tilapia, however, TIP mRNA was expressed in excretory organs, such as the gill and kidney [45].…”

“…The expression of TIP39 in the central nervous system is restricted to two major sites, the subparafascicular area in the caudal thalamus and the medial paralemniscal nucleus in the lateral pons (Dobolyi et al, 2003b;Dobolyi et al, 2002). The distributions of TIP39 fibers (Dobolyi et al, 2003b) and the PTH2 receptor in the central nervous system have recently been described in young male rats.…”

“…The distributions of TIP39 fibers (Dobolyi et al, 2003b) and the PTH2 receptor in the central nervous system have recently been described in young male rats. PTH2 receptors and TIP39 fibers have similar distributions in many brain regions, suggesting that they form a neuromodulator system (Dobolyi et al, 2006).…”

“…Interestingly, neuroanatomical studies implicated that high-density TIP39 fibers project widely in many limbic areas, including the PVN and several hypothalamic nuclei. Earlier studies also implicated that TIP39 peptide potentially modulates the natural process of the HPA axis during stressful condition [24].…”
