Expression of blood group‐related carbohydrate antigens in normal human pancreatic tissue

Abstract: Expression of blood group-related carbohydrate antigens in normal human pancreatic tissue. APMIS 99: 931-940, 1991. The expression of type 1, 2 and 3 chain carbohydrate structures in 15 normal pancreata was investigated by immunohistochemical methods using well-defined monoclonal antibodies. Surgical biopsies of pancreata were obtained from kidney donors while the organs were still perfused. Type 1 chain structures were abundantly expressed including monosialylated(ms)-and disialylated(ds)-Led antigens, whi… Show more

“…Furthermore, the Lewis" antigen has been found in pancreatic cancer tissue [30], but is poorly expressed in the adult pancreatic [32]. This antigen may be regarded as an oncodevelopmental antigen [32]. The studies of Wendorf et al [29], revealed that the elastase-1 glycans possessed blood groups A and B, and the related Lewis" and Lewis determinants located on the Mana(l+3)-linked lactosamme antennae.…”

“…To this end, comprehensive knowledge of the occurrence of TFRA in normal adult human tissues is of the utmost importance. Several groups have examined normal tissues in the context of their studies (Mandel et al 1991;Philipsen et al 1991;Therkildsen et al 1994), but a systematic and comprehensive analysis is still lacking. The study of s-TF has only recently become possible by a combination of lectin staining with conventional histochemistry (Sata et al 1990).…”
