“…Despite the identification of a new TSS, the consensus NtcA site remains 350 bp upstream of the new TSS. NtcA binding sites at distances greater than the prototypical distance of Ϫ40 bp have been demonstrated for several cyanobacterial genes, such as cox2, cox3, and furA (13,18).…”

“…PCC 7120, northern blot and western blot analyses showed an increase in furA expression and a corresponding decrease in alr1690-α-furA expression in nitrogen fixing conditions. Nitrogen deprivation upregulates the level of furA mRNA and the corresponding proteins, specifically in pro-heterocysts and mature heterocysts ( Lopez-Gomollon et al 2006). Nitrogen status has no effect on the transcription level or on the expression of FurB and FurC paralogues.…”

“…Besides, several iron-responsive genes in cyanobacteria, such as nblA, petH, pkn41, pkn42, among others, are also modulated by NtcA. [14][15][16] We have recently shown that NtcA modulates the expression of FurA, that is strongly enhanced in the heterocyst, 17 providing a very strong evidence of the link between those regulators.…”
