Expression of islet neogenesis-associated protein in islets of normal hamsters

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to test the possible presence and expression of islet neogenesis-associated protein (INGAP) in islet cells of normal adult hamsters.Pancreata from normal male Syrian hamsters were removed to perform the following studies. (i) Western blot analysis using the cytosolic fraction from homogenates of isolated islets, exocrine tissue and whole pancreas, and rabbit INGAP-specific antibody. (ii) Immunohistochemical identification of INGAP-positive cells in fixed sections of intact panc… Show more

“…The fact that sucrose administration only induced an increase in INGAP cell mass when islet neogenesis occurred , together with our recent report of its transcription at islet level (Flores et al 2003) would reinforce this assumption.…”

“…In the mouse pancreas, Reg3δ is detected in exocrine cells and endocrine non-β-cells predominantly located at the islet periphery (18, 50, 51). When human, rat and hamster genomes were subjected to Southern blot hybridization with the mouse reg3 δ gene probe, bands appeared with sizes different than those of other Reg family members leading to the discovery of Reg3δ orthologs in these species.…”

“…INGAP gene encodes a 19,940 Da transcript [3], only produced in different subsectors of the pancreas (islets, duct and exocrine cells) [5]. A synthetic pentadecapeptide having the 104-118 aminoacids sequence of INGAP (INGAP-PP), reproduces the stimulatory effect of the intact molecule upon thymidine incorporation into pancreatic duct cells and duct-cell lines [3].…”
