Expression of periostin in breast cancer cells

Abstract: Periostin (POSTN) is a protein involved in multiple processes important for cancer development, both at the stage of cancer initiation and progression, as well as metastasis. The aim of this study was to determine the expression of POSTN in the cells of non-invasive ductal breast carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and to correlate it with clinicopathological data. Immunohistochemical studies (IHC) were conducted on 21 cases of fibrocystic breast change (FC), 44 cases of DCIS and 92 ca… Show more

“…Growing evidence has implicated that POSTN is overexpressed in various types of human cancer tissues, including ovarian cancer [ 21 ], breast cancer [ 22 , 23 ], colon cancer [ 24 ], head and neck cancer [ 25 ], and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma [ 26 ]. However, the effect of POSTN expression in CAFs on the progression of NSCLC remains largely unknown despite some published reports related to NSCLC [ 6 , 7 , 27 ].…”

“…Periostin is expressed in invasive ductal carcinoma cells [87]. Its expression increases with the cancer grade, suggesting that periostin may play a role in cancer progression [88]. Periostin can also serve as marker of breast cancer metastasis.…”

“…POSTN encodes a secreted extracellular matrix protein that responsible for tissue development and regeneration, including wound healing and ventricular remodeling following myocardial infarction. Some studies have illustrated that this gene is involved in the carcinogenesis of ovarian cancer (24), colorectal cancer (25) and breast cancer (26), but no available evidence shows the relationship between this gene and the IDD.…”
