Expressions of lipoprotein receptors and cholesterol efflux regulatory proteins during luteolysis in bovine corpus luteum

Abstract: The corpus luteum (CL) synthesises and secretes progesterone (P4), which is essential for the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy in mammals. P4 is synthesised from cholesterol. Cholesterol is internalised by low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) and/or scavenger receptor B1 (SR-BI), and is effluxed by Scavenger receptor B1 during luteolysisProgesterone, which is essential for pregnancy in mammals, is synthesised from cholesterol in the corpus luteum (CL). We investigated the involvement of cholester… Show more

“…Nfkbia and Adam8 are poorly understood in the context of aneurysm rupture, but Rgs2 is known to be upregulated in response to high wall shear stress and is associated with development of hypertension, which is a major risk factor for ICA development and rupture ( Cañes et al ., 2021 ; Dolan et al ., 2012 ; Heximer et al ., 2003 ; Leng et al ., 2021 ; Tang et al ., 2003 ). ATP binding cassette subfamily A member 1 ( Abca1 ) is part of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-gamma) pathway that mediates cholesterol influx in the ovary, is increased in early luteal stages, and is associated with altered fertility when mutated ( Horihata et al ., 2017 ; Miettinen, Rayburn & Krieger, 2001 ; Puttabyatappa, VandeVoort & Chaffin, 2010 ). It plays a similar cholesterol-transporting role in arterial walls ( Bekelis et al ., 2016 ; Ollikainen et al ., 2016 ; Synowiec et al ., 2016 ).…”

“…Ovaries were immediately disinfected once in 70% ethanol and then cleaned again with saline a minimum of three times in the laboratory. According to their morphology, one skillful operator split the CLs basically into three phases: the early (days 1-5), developed and mid (days 6-11), and late luteal phase (days 12-16) stages (Rakesh et al, 2013;Horihata et al, 2016).…”

“…The CL can be divided into cyclical and pregnancy CLs. If pregnancy does not occur, the CL will degenerate into a white body under the action of prostaglandin F2α (PGF 2α ) and prolactin (PRL), and then the female animal will enter the next round of the estrus cycle [1][2][3]. Progesterone (P 4 ), secreted by the CL, plays a crucial role in regulating the estrous cycle and maintaining pregnancy.…”
