Extraction Ability of 4-Benzoyl-3-phenyl-5-isoxazolone towards 4f-Ions into Ionic and Molecular Media

Abstract: The distribution constants of 4-benzoyl-3-phenyl-5-isoxazolone (HPBI) and deprotonated one (PBI) between hydrophobic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([CCim][TfN]) and aqueous phases were determined, together with the acid-dissociation constant of HPBI. The solvent extraction of three selected lanthanoid ions (La, Eu, and Lu) with HPBI from aqueous nitrate phase into [CCim][TfN] has been investigated. Application of the ionic liquid as the extracting phase greatly enh… Show more

“…The high selective extraction of only light Ln ions was successfully realized due to strong interaction between light Ln ions with N atom and C=O groups of the central frame in ADAAM(EH). 8 In conclusion, the direct and complete temperature-swing extraction of all RE ions from single-and multi-component acidic solutions was successfully demonstrated by means of the phase transition-based gelification of poly(NIPAAm) in combination with hydrophobic DGA-typed ligands in a singlestage extraction operation. Furthermore, it was clarified that the extractability was controlled by not only the coordination ability of the ligands with the RE ions but also by the hydrophobic interaction of poly(NIPAAm) with hydrophobic ligands in this gelification process.…”

“…Recently, novel green extraction methods using a surfactant micelle and an ionic liquid, instead of organic solvents, have been investigated, and the extraction of RE ions from acidic solutions has been realized. 8,9 However, the methods are difficult to apply to strong HNO3 solutions like HLLW. Therefore, environmentally friendly, safe, and simple separation methods for MA and Ln from HNO3 solutions need to be established to overcome such difficulties.…”

“…Regarding solvent extraction using hydrophobic ILs, such as 1-alkyl-3methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imides (Cnmim-Tf2N), not a few reviews have been published in the last decade and many studies have been published also in recent years. [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] Hydrophobic ILs can act not only as highly polar solvents 30 but also as liquid ion-exchangers, 31 and distribution behavior of a compound between an IL phase and an aqueous phase is often complicated.…”

“…Several researchers have reported effective SLMs based on ionic liquids (ILs), which are salts with a melting point below 100 C. [14][15][16][17][18] ILs have unique properties, such as high thermal stability, negligible vapor pressure and flame resistance; therefore, they have gained tremendous attention from researchers of separation science. [19][20][21][22][23] Separation using IL-based SLMs is an attractive green alternative to traditional solvent extraction because an organic solvent is not required. However, Pt transport with IL-based SLMs has not been reported.…”
