Investigation process plays a very crucial role not only in the criminal justice system, but also in various organizations to prevent the risk and harm and also to maintain the peace and order in the society and often it is shown that there are no such direct evidences present in the crime scene. Hence to investigate properly and accurately scientists are continuously trying to develop various Forensic Psychological investigative tools and techniques, which focus only on the psycho-physiological activities to detect deception, such as Polygraph, Narco Analysis, and Suspect Detection System etc. Nowadays there is an instrument which is very new in the Indian Environment, known as Eye Detect Technology, which measures very small and slight changes in our eye movements, especially pupil dilation. The technology is already an award winning technique with 90% accuracy level, but still it is unknown how reliable the instrument is in the Indian setup especially in the corporate sector as a screening tool. Hence it is needed to perform or to conduct the research on this instrument to check the reliability. Therefore this research will focus on the reliability and the applicability of eye detect instruments as ascreening tool in various corporate sectors to distinguish between truthful and deceptive applicants during Pre Employment screening. Hence for seeking the answer, first suitable samples were collected and then basic interviews wereconducted for knowing the background of each and every participant. At last the experiments were conducted in a controlled condition and also in a controlled manner. The main goal behind this experiment is to check whether it is reliable enough to detect deception in deceptive individuals or not and if it is reliable enough then what are the future applications of using this instrument in investigative as well asscreening purposes etc. Hence this research is trying to find its future applicability as a screening tool in corporate sectors because; in this generation employees are the biggest threat of their own organization and to prevent the risk it is important to introduce a new system which is reliable enough to detect deception.

Assessing Deception in Questionnaire Surveys With Eye-Tracking

Deceit often occurs in questionnaire surveys, which leads to the misreporting of data and poor reliability. The purpose of this study is to explore whether eye-tracking could contribute to the detection of deception in questionnaire surveys, and whether the eye behaviors that appeared in instructed lying still exist in spontaneous lying. Two studies were conducted to explore eye movement behaviors in instructed and spontaneous lying conditions. The results showed that pupil size and fixation behaviors are both reliable indicators to detect lies in questionnaire surveys. Blink and saccade behaviors do not seem to predict deception. Deception resulted in increased pupil size, fixation count and duration. Meanwhile, respondents focused on different areas of the questionnaire when lying versus telling the truth. Furthermore, in the actual deception situation, the linear support vector machine (SVM) deception classifier achieved an accuracy of 74.09%. In sum, this study indicates the eye-tracking signatures of lying are not restricted to instructed deception, demonstrates the potential of using eye-tracking to detect deception in questionnaire surveys, and contributes to the questionnaire surveys of sensitive issues.

Emotional intelligence and individuals’ viewing behaviour of human faces: a predictive approach

Although several studies have looked at the relationship between emotional characteristics and viewing behaviour, understanding how emotional intelligence (EI) contributes to individuals’ viewing behaviour is not clearly understood. This study examined the viewing behaviour of people (74 male and 80 female) with specific EI profiles while viewing five facial expressions. An eye-tracking methodology was employed to examine individuals’ viewing behaviour in relation to their EI. We compared the performance of different machine learning algorithms on the eye-movement parameters of participants to predict their EI profiles. The results revealed that EI profiles of individuals high in self-control, emotionality, and sociability responded differently to the visual stimuli. The prediction results of these EI profiles achieved 94.97% accuracy. The findings are unique in that they provide a new understanding of how eye-movements can be used in the prediction of EI. The findings also contribute to the current understanding of the relationship between EI and emotional expressions, thereby adding to an emerging stream of research that is of interest to researchers and psychologists in human–computer interaction, individual emotion, and information processing.
