Eye Vision Testing System and Eyewear Using Micromachines

Abstract: Proposed is a novel eye vision testing system based on micromachines that uses micro-optic, micromechanic, and microelectronic technologies. The micromachines include a programmable micro-optic lens and aperture control devices, pico-projectors, Radio Frequency (RF), optical wireless communication and control links, and energy harvesting and storage devices with remote wireless energy transfer capabilities. The portable lightweight system can measure eye refractive powers, optimize light conditions for the eye… Show more

“…One of the main reasons for worsening visual acuity and blindness is untreated or badly corrected refractive errors [ 1 4 ], with so-called corneal blindness currently the fourth-highest cause of blindness in the world [ 1 4 ]. Methods of vision correction include corrective eyeglasses, hard and soft contact lenses, orthocorrection, laser vision correction, and refractive lens exchange (phakic lenses) [ 5 ]. Although corrective glasses are advantageous in terms of their low cost and ease of use [ 6 ], they have a number of disadvantages, including restricted freedom of movement, reduced visibility in poor weather conditions, a narrower field of vision, and alterations in the size of images [ 6 ].…”

“…The plant has various pharmacological functions, including cytotoxicity, antimicrobial, and wound care [14]. It has antidiabetic and hypolipidemic [15], antiarthritic [16], antinociceptive [17], hepatoprotective and bilirubin-lowering [18], powerful antioxidants activities [19], antihypertensive [20], anticancer [21], gastroprotective [22], and anti-inflammatory and anticonvulsant [23] effects. The most useful aspects of this tree are Graviola leaves.…”

“…Electrically tunable liquid crystal (LC) lenses, prisms, irises, and occluders are very useful in vision-related applications, such as eyeglass [1], contact lens [2], phoropter [3,4], treatment for amblyopia and strabismus [5], head-mounted display [6][7][8][9][10] (virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality), and 3D imaging [1,11]. The electrically tunable power of the LC lenses and prisms (or the transmission of the occluders) can be adjusted with varying refractive indices (or the scattering) due to re-orientations of LC directors controlled by the applied electric fields.…”
