Fabrication and Photovoltaic Properties of Organic Solar Cell Based on Zinc Phthalocyanine

Abstract: Herein, we report thin films’ characterizations and photovoltaic properties of an organic semiconductor zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc). To study the former, a 100 nm thick film of ZnPc is thermally deposited on quartz glass by using vacuum thermal evaporator at 1.5 × 10−6 mbar. Surface features of the ZnPc film are studied by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) with in situ energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis and atomic force microscope (AFM) which reveal uniform film growth, grain sizes and s… Show more

“…The current density for the space charge limited current (SCLC) region can be expressed as follows, since the electrodes form an ohmic contact with the organic semiconductor film: where J is the current density, V is the applied voltage, μ is the mobility, L is the film thickness, and and are the relative material (3.6 for the CuPc [ 40 ]) and vacuum (8.85 × 10 −14 Fcm −1 ) permittivity, respectively. The carrier mobility was calculated using Eq.…”

“…The unique explications toward the development of competence into OPV cells are the employment of a tandem arrangement, that receives light from a broader spectrum. The tandem OPV (T-OPV) cell is typically arranged as a set of cells in a chimney [220][221][222]. Hiramoto et al [223] Tanaka et al [224] practiced the transparent film of bathocuproine (BCP) being the exciton-hindering sheet into the backbone cell.…”

“…It should be noted that two almost equally intense and wide absorptions bands at the wavelengths 620-640 nm and 680-700 nm, which are characteristic for the ZnPc dye used in this research or in the paper [16], provide better utilizing of solar radiation comparing with phthalocyanines with only one absorption band, for example in the work [17].…”

“…It is known from literature that phthalocyanines are characterized by the presence of a Soret band in the UVvisible spectrum in the region of 300-400 nm and an intense Q-band in the region of 600-750 nm [8]. The Qband is attributed to the photoexcitation of individual phthalocyanine molecules on the grounds that they all have the same aromatic macrocycle, which includes nitrogen atoms and contains 18 conjugated π-electrons [9].…”
