FABRICATION AND PROPERTIES OF SILICONE RUBBER/ZnO NANOCOMPOSITES VIA IN SITU SURFACE HYDROSILYLATION

Abstract: The silicone rubber (SR) nanocomposites have been successfully prepared via the in situ hydrosilylation reaction in the presence of pristine ZnO and vinyl silane modified ZnO ( SiVi@ ZnO ) nanoparticles. The structure of the pristine ZnO and SiVi @ ZnO nanoparticles were analyzed by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The morphology, thermal stabilities, mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of the nanoco… Show more

“…In order to solve this problem, surface modification techniques are applied to improve the interaction between the nanoparticles and the polymer. In the work of Yuan et al [ 116 ], in order to prepare the silicone rubber with high thermal conductivity, pristine and surface-modified ZnO nanoparticles containing the vinyl silane group are incorporated into the silicone rubber via a hydrosilylation reaction during the curing process. The corresponding structure, morphology and properties of the silicone rubber/ZnO (SR/ZnO) and silicone rubber/SiVi@ZnO (SR/SiVi@ZnO) nanocomposites were investigated.…”

“…Therefore, the mechanical properties of silicone rubber are found to improve as well when ZnO is incorporated in it as fillers. In their attempt to enhance the interactions between the nano-sized ZnO particles and the polymer, Yuan et al 110 by incorporating vinyl silane groups on the surfaces of ZnO NPs using vinyl triethoxysilane through a procedure premised on hydrosilylation reaction during curing carried out their surface modification. The vinyl silane groups on the ZnO surface enabled improved cross-linking with the rubber matrix.…”

“…(2) Zinc oxide is an extremely efficient and oen used crosslinker for carboxylated elastomers. 263,264 It is possible to produce vulcanizates that have a high tensile strength, resistance to tearing, and level of hardness as well as hysteresis. The increased mechanical capabilities of ionic elastomers are primarily the result of their high stress relaxation capacity.…”
