Fabrication of Functional Carbon/Magnetic Nanocomposites as A Promising Model of Utilization of Used Crosslinked Polymers

Abstract: The utilization of used crosslinked functional polymers (CFP) applied as sorbents or ion-exchangers is a great challenge arising from the need to protect the environment. In this paper we report a very promising way of obtaining carbon/magnetic composites based on metal (Co2+; Ni2+; Fe3+) derivatives of butadiene rubber-based phosphorus-containing polymer, which were treated as the model used CFP. We proposed a facile one-step thermal degradation approach to transform used CFP into carbon/magnetic composites (… Show more

“…On the other hand, the diffraction patterns of the HMs exhibited small peaks at around 28.2° and 35.5° (marked with * in Figure 5 ), which correspond to the (−311) and (221) planes of iron chloride hydrate (ICDD card 033-0645), whose space group is C2/m. This observation confirms the presence of Fe 3+ cations within the structures [ 49 ]. The low intensity of the peaks in the FucoPol HMs’ patterns can be ascribed to the low amount of Fe 3+ in the structures ( Table 1 ) [ 49 ].…”

“…Furthermore, CMC- g -PNaA shows broad peaks at around 22.46° and 32.15°, which demonstrate that the crystalline region of CMC is destroyed after grafting of AA onto CMC. Meanwhile, CMC- g -PNaA/FeCl 3 depicts a broad peak with two small intense peaks at around 27.15° and 35.24°, due to the ionic cross-linking of CMC- g -PNaA with Fe 3+ ions, as shown in Figure 4 [ 37 ]. After ionic cross-linking, the XRD peaks of CMC- g -PNaA were shifted from the lower to higher 2θ values, which indicate the successful ionic cross-linking of Fe 3+ with CMC- g -PNaA chains.…”

“…The elemental composition of diatomite is as follows: 82.21wt% SiO 2 , 4.81wt% Al 2 O 3 , 1.82wt% CaO, 1.61wt% MgO, 1.33wt% Fe 2 O 3 , 0.48wt% K 2 O 0.14wt% Na 2 O. [29] Various hydroxyl polymerized cations are introduced by cation exchange, and hydroxyl and water in hydroxyl polymerized cations are removed by drying, [30,31] calcination and other steps. After the "pillar" like supports are formed between clay layers, a new material pillared diatomite with two-dimensional pore molecular sieve structure is formed.…”
