Fabrication of Hybrid Catalyst ZnO Nanorod/α-Fe2O3 Composites for Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Abstract: This report presents the synthesis of ZnO nanorod/α-Fe2O3 composites by the hydrothermal method with different weight percentages of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. The as-synthesized nanorod composites were characterized by different techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). From our results, it was found that the ZnO/α-Fe2O3 (3 wt%) nano… Show more

“…In the past few years, a variety of Fe-based materials have been believed to be an essential class of catalyst for the HER, such as Fe-based nitrides, oxides, phosphides, sulfides, , and so on. Because of their low price, lack of pollution, and superb durability, Fe-based oxides electrocatalysts have received intense attention so far.…”

“…Two half-reactions, HER and OER, are commonly studied in alkaline and acidic media ( Danilovic et al, 2013 ; Wang et al, 2021b ). Many published data exist for ZnO-based catalysts in alkaline media ( Yu et al, 2018 ) and few in acidic media ( Uma et al, 2020 ; Pataniya et al, 2021 ). Therefore, we investigated the catalytic activity of the prepared composites toward HER and OER in both media.…”
