Facile Fabrication of Metal Ions‐Incorporated Chitosan/β‐Cyclodextrin Composites for Effective Removal of Oil from Oily Wastewater

Abstract: In this study, metal ions incorporated cyclodextrin functionalized chitosan were synthesized by a simple one‐pot method which was employed to adsorb the oil droplets from oily wastewater. Adsorption behavior of oil molecules were investigated with binary biopolymer acting as a host‐guest interaction. The synthesized composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX), powder X‐ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric… Show more

“…Nevertheless, triggered demulsification is of particular interest as well. Therefore, a number of methods to demulsify PDP-stabilized emulsions were studied in here. , First, a dextran 40k -in-PEG 35k emulsion (3 wt %, 7 wt %, respectively) was prepared with 0.2 g/L PDP as the stabilizer. These emulsions were very stable and no obvious phase separation was observed over 16 weeks (Figure e).…”

“…Composites of Zn/Al-Chitosan and Mg/Al-Chitosan were prepared by mixing layered double hydroxide and chitosan through the co-precipitation method with slightly modified from [29]. The solution of M 2+ /M 3+ (M 2+ = Zn, Mg; M 3+ = Al) with molar ratio 3:1 was mixed and pH was adjusted to 10 by adding 2 M sodium hydroxide.…”

“…Following that, Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles are coated by β-CD-chitosan. A peculiar contribution was provided by Elanchezhiyan and Meenakshi [114], who synthesized chitosan-β-CD using glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker in the presence of lanthanum, zirconium, or cerium ions. These metal ions were integrated into the adsorbent.…”
