“…Most of the refugees who participated in my research, as well as in Turkey generally, are Syrian by origin, and therefore have what is called “temporary protection” rather than legal refugee status. Because Turkey has ratified the Geneva Convention with the stipulation that it would apply only to European asylum seekers, Syrian refugees receive what is called temporary protection, and those in such a status have limited rights and are expected to return home after the war (Baban et al, 2017, p. 41; Erdoğan, 2019, p. 4). It also must be stressed that these documents are not residency permits, and do not allow the holder a chance for permanent residency or citizenship (İçduygu & Nimer, 2020, p. 4).…”

“…They can also get work permits, but employers don't prefer to do this because of the expensiveness of insurance…” As pointed out, the refugees with temporary protection documents do have the possibility to work, but only with a very limited capacity. For employers to hire refugees with a temporary protection document, the ratio of employment must be maintained at one refugee for every ten Turkish citizens, unless the employer can prove that they are unable to find a Turkish citizen to fulfil that job for any extra positions beyond this 10 per cent threshold (Bache, 2020, p. 15; Erdoğan, 2019, p. 12; İçduygu & Nimer, 2020, p. 5). The potential employer must also pay all residence permit application fees, health care, social security and relevant taxes for their refugee employee (Bache, 2020, p. 15).…”
