Factor B Reference Typing Report

Abstract: In a factor B (BF) Reference Typing of the Vlth Complement Genetics Workshop and Conference, Mainz, FRG, 1989, 99 samples from 13 laboratories, including 18 families, were investigated with the majority of presently known typing procedures. Among the major (‘standard’) allotypes BF S04 was found to be new. For the group of common BF F subtypes samples from 11 laboratories including complete family data from 5 laboratories were compared. The subtypes BF FA and FB were recognized and confirmed to be identical in… Show more

“…The gel was then dried and colored with Coomassie blue. For nomenclature rules see Geserick et al [27], Statistical Analysis The association degree was estimated by x2 test and Fisher's probability value (double-tailed). Appropriate correction for the de grees of freedom was applied when necessary.…”

“…These samples included the common phenotypes F, FS, and S, as well as the variants F155 (in the phenotype F155S), F1 (in F1F), F065 (in F065S), and S07 (in SS07). The typing technology and nomenclature were used as published previously [1][2][3].…”

“…Using polyacrylamide gel isoelectric focusing (PAGIF), the BF*F subtypes FA and FB can be identified [2][3][4]. These subtypes as well as the major alleles F and S can also be distinguished directly at the genomic DNA level using PCR followed by restriction fragment analysis of codon 7 with the enzymes MspI (for F/S typing) and BslI (for FA/FB typing), as summarized in table 1 [5,6].…”

“…In addition, among the six variants submitted to the Vlth Comple ment Genetics Workshop Reference Typing the new allotypes BF*FQL02 (QL = quanti tatively low) and S04 were detected [see also 20], A further variant could not be distin guished by determination of relative electro phoretic migration with sufficient reliability but probably must be classified as 'S02'. A list of presently reported major BF allotypes is given in table 1.…”
