Factors influencing agritourism adoption by small farmers in North Carolina

Abstract: The study estimates a logit model to identify factors influencing adoption of agritourism by small farmers in North Carolina using a survey. All variables included in the model were dummies and of these having at least a college education has the greatest impact on participating in agritourism, followed by race, public access to the farm for recreation, farms with more than 50 acres of land deemed unsuitable for crop production, and the total amount of land owned. Other factors such as farms near cities, willi… Show more

“…It was assumed that agritourism entrepreneurship's ecosystem environment (setting/environment) is significantly influenced by the historical, cultural, political, and ethnic context. These factors have been analysed either singularly or sequentially in other studies [44], but their systemic impact on the phenomenon under examination has not been analysed. The thesis of homogeneous patterns of entrepreneurial environment formation for all countries and regions was questioned.…”

“…Therefore, the logistic regression model is used to model the probability of an event in statistics. This model has been used in the probability of agritourism adaption by the farmer [1,14,15]. Using the logistic regression model, where fermers estimate the probability of agritourism participation (Y i (Y ATF and Y NATF )) based on independent variables (X i ), the probability of agritourism adaptation can be calculated in the following equations:…”

“…Agritourism has attracted the attention of agricultural experts and researchers around the world in recent years [1]. In recent years, many scientific papers have been published by several researchers reflecting on the development of agritourism in rural areas as an alternative source of income and employment.…”
