Factors of Adoption Intention for Near Field Communication Mobile Payment

Abstract: Near field communication mobile payment (NMP) is simple to use and beneficial to consumers, yet its adoption among consumers in Malaysia is still at the beginning stage and the adoption rate is relatively lower compared to other countries in the world. The aim of this study is to identify factors that affect the adoption intention of NMP among consumers in Malaysia, by using Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FSKM), UiTM Shah Alam as the case study for this research. “…Davis (1989), who first established the strong correlation between perceived usefulness with user acceptance of technology through TAM, states that the functions or benefits that a technology provides serve as a primary purpose for its adoption before concluding that successful design and implementation of technology systems should ultimately emphasize on its usefulness to the users. This finding is also consistent with other past studies pertaining to the context of mobile payment (Busu et al 2018;Kim et al 2010;Pham & Ho 2015). Similarly, Liébana-Cabanillas et al (2015) also found significant relationship between perceived usefulness and intention to use QR mobile payment in their study conducted in Spain.…”

“…Kim et al (2010) found a significant positive relationship between perceived usefulness and intention to use mobile payment. A similar relationship between the two constructs has been empirically validated in many studies in mobile payment (Busu et al 2018;Kalinic & Marinkovic 2016;Mun et al 2017;Pham & Ho 2015). This leads to the following hypothesis: H1 There is a significant relationship between perceived usefulness and intention to use QR mobile payment.…”

“…Furthermore, the Central Bank of Malaysia has been putting in efforts to accelerate the promotion of m-payment adoption as it recognizes the numerous benefits of m-payment (Bank Negara Malaysia, 2018). These advantages include enhancing the performance of customers' checkout experience as the cashier can focus more on customer service instead of handling cash (Busu et al , 2018).…”
