Fagonia cretica-Mediated Synthesis of Manganese Oxide (MnO2) Nanomaterials Their Characterization and Evaluation of Their Bio-Catalytic and Enzyme Inhibition Potential for Maintaining Flavor and Texture in Apples

Abstract: The apple is the most widely used fruit globally. Apples are more prone to fungal spoilage, which leads to browning and subsequent changes in their flavor and texture. Browning is also caused by the tyrosinase enzyme. By inhibiting tyrosinase initiation and fungal spoilage in fruits, the natural flavor and texture of fruits can be maintained. Biogenic NPs can act as antioxidants to inhibit tyrosinase and due to oxidative stress, it also catalyzes the deformation of fungal hyphae and spores. Nanotechnology is a… Show more

“…Sulfonylureas, biguanides and thiazolidinediones help to lower the blood sugar level by increasing the insulin sensitivity in muscles, and alpha‐glucosidase inhibitors work by slowing down intestinal absorption of carbohydrates. With all these mechanisms, the antidiabetic drugs are able to maintain normal blood glucose levels in the body 58–60 …”

“…This triggers the release of insulin, amylin, and glucagon which, collectively, act to suppress glucose production and create a feeling of satiation, reducing appetite by sending signals to the brain that you are fully satisfied. Consequently, GLP‐1 inhibits glucagon while both insulin and amylin work to reduce glucose levels 58–60 …”

“…Hence, the green synthesis method is preferred over the physical and chemical methods. The green synthesis method employs different microorganisms like algae 18 , fungi 19 , and bacteria cells 20 , or extracts from different parts of plants, including leaves 21 , 22 , shoots 23 , fruits, and fruit peels 24 26 . Green synthesis of nanoparticles using plants has several merits over other biological methods because it is a hassle-free, innocuous method that incorporates plant extracts and does not require sterile conditions or the arduous maintenance procedures that are required with other biogenic methods 27 29 .…”
