Family-Centered Care: An Evolutionary Concept Analysis

Abstract: Introduction: The inappropriate development of nursing concepts is one of the most important obstacles to the progress of nursing knowledge. Family-centered care is one concept that is not well-defined, even though it is widely used in many areas of nursing and caregiving. This study aimed to analyze the concept of family-centered care using Rodgers' evolutionary model. Methods: The 8 steps of Rodgers' evolutionary model were followed. After concept selection, the Pubmed, Medline, Scopus, Science Direct, OVID,… Show more

“…Similarly, the intervention had significant effects on increasing self-efficacy and self-esteem in the intervention group when compared with the control groups, which was consistent with the results of other surveys using the family-centered empowerment model 20 , 21 . “…We examined clarity, readability, and simplicity of questions based on the pilot which included 50 caregivers. The reliability coefficients (Cronbach's α) of the high-risk behaviors questionnaire and the empowerment evaluation questionnaire were 0.88 and 0.85, respectively, suggesting an acceptable internal consistency of the tool's criterion (20). Likewise, the appropriate correlation coefficient between all constructs of family-centered empowerment was observed.…”

“…As yet, mental healthcare providers including MHNs are viewed as the most stigmatizing group that inadvertently influences the quality of mental healthcare services (Arboleda‐Flórex & Stuart, ). Despite the increased concern with FCC, the biomedical model continues to influence the traditional healthcare practice, solely addressing the individual patient rather than the family as a care recipient, especially in what concerns nurses (Hsiao & Tsai, ; Moradian, ; Wong, ). With the increasing demands on families to assume continuous care for sick relatives, it is critical to shed light on family‐centered practice from family caregivers’ perspectives.…”

“…Both caregivers and HCWs experienced some difficulties with FCCM. HCWs had concerns as families were not visiting health facilities together as a unit as required by FCCM principles [15,26,27] and by how the FCCM pilot program was designed. HCWs struggled synchronizing clinic visits appointments dates for families mainly due to schedule conflicts for school-going HIV-positive children and teenagers participating in weekend Teen Clubs for psychosocial support.…”
