Abstract: This article investigates the influence of entrepreneurial orientation and absorptive capacity on family firm performance. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS‐SEM) was used to analyze empirical data for 218 Spanish family firms. Absorptive capacity positively mediated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and family firm performance. This total mediation effect suppressed the direct effect of entrepreneurial orientation on family firm performance. A major implication of this … Show more

“…ACAP has been selected due to its relevance for firms when competing in an increasingly competitive environment (Jansen et al, 2005 ). This effect has already been analyzed in a previous work by Hernández-Perlines et al ( 2017 ) for this group of family businesses. The difference with respect to said work is the dependent variable: in the work of Hernández-Perlines et al ( 2017 ), the dependent variable was the performance of family businesses, in this research the dependent variable is the international performance of family businesses.…”

“…Third, PLS is often viewed as more appropriate for exploratory purposes (Henseler, Ringle, & Sinkovics, ). Finally, PLS permits the simultaneous estimation of multiple causal relationships between one or more independent variables and one or more dependent variables (Medsker, Williams, & Holahan, ), which is the case in this study and is not possible in multiple regressions (Hernández‐Perlines, Moreno‐García, & Yáñez‐Araque, ). We use SmartPLS Version 3.2.6 bootstrapping with 5000 resamples.…”
