Fast Synthesis of Co3O4 by Microwave-Assisted Hydrothermal Treatment

Abstract: This work describes a fast and simple procedure that combines the virtues of the microwave-assisted hydrothermal method with an oxidizing agent to produce Co3O4 nanocubes and nanoplates. We observed that particle morphology and size depend on the synthesis time and oxidizing agent (urea and hydrogen peroxide). The X-ray diffraction results showed that the samples are single phase, with crystallite sizes of approximately 30 nm. A similar crystalline domain is observed in the transmission electronic images. Magn… Show more

“…Medina et al group synthesized Co 3 O 4 nanocubes and nanoplates by microwave assisted hydrothermal method at a temperature of 180 °C-220 °C using urea and hydrogen peroxide as oxidizing agents. 48 They observed that the reaction time and oxidizing agent played a crucial role in controlling the particle size and shape. S. Mallesh et al reported the synthesis of α-Fe 2 O 3 nanostructures with cube like shape using surfactant free microwave assisted solvothermal method.…”
