Fatigue life prediction of mechanical structures under stochastic loading

Abstract: Abstract. Problems of fatigue life prediction of materials and structures are discussed in the paper. Service loading is assumed as a continuous loading process with possible discontinuous events, which are caused by various operating conditions. The damage in a material is due to a cumulative degradation process. The damaging process is then represented either by rain-flow matrices or by a fatigue damage function which is derived using some hypothesis of a fatigue failure criterion. Presented theoretical proc… Show more

“…Therefore, the chassis including the frame is loaded with dynamic loads. Their characteristics, such amplitude and frequency are stochastic and they will cause different loads in comparison with performed static analyses [5,20,21]. Hence, future research in this field should be focused on obtaining input data, which will simulate more realistic loading of the frame structure.…”

“…For a specified model and planning values for the model parameters, it is possible to use a computer to simulate ALT experiments to see the kind of data that will be obtained and to visualize the variability from trial to trial. Such simulations provide an assessment of sampling uncertainty that will result from using a limited number of test specimens [9].…”
