Favorable effects of the weak ethylene receptor mutation Sletr1-2 on postharvest fruit quality changes in tomatoes

Abstract: Tomatoes with a prolonged fruit shelf life and improved postharvest quality would be an attractive commodity for both breeders and consumers. A weak allele of the tomato ethylene receptor mutant Sletr1-2 elicits an extended fruit shelf life without prominent undesirable pleiotropic effects. In this study, we elucidate the influences of the Sletr1-2 mutation on alterations of the postharvest fruit quality of Sletr1-2 F1 hybrid lines from four different pure-line cultivar parents. The changes in the compositions… Show more

“…For fresh market purposes, extending fruit shelf life by 2 days is only beneficial for nearby markets. Prolonged fruit shelf life is important for long-distance transportation to markets, fruit storage, and handling (Mubarok et al 2015;Mubarok et al 2016). In contrast with the Sletr4-1 mutant line, Sletr5-1 exhibited an accelerated fruit ripening process.…”

“…There is a change in the total sugar content during fruit maturation that can be used to determine the sweetness of tomato fruits . The entire sugar content of the mutant Sletr1-1 and Sletr1-2, both in homozygous and heterozygous form, is lower than WT-MT, except for the F1 Sletr1-2 heterozygous (Mubarok et al, 2016). The fruit of nor mutant has the lowest total sugar content, followed by the fruit of Nr, rin, Sletr1-1, and Sletr1-2 (Osorio et al, 2011;Mubarok et al, 2016;Osorio et al, 2020).…”

“…dalam Marliah, dkk. (2012) dalam setiap 100 g buah tomat mengandung 4,2 g karbohidrat, 0,3 g lemak, 1 g protein, 5 mg kalsium, 27 mg fosfor, 0,5 mg zat besi, 1500 Si vitamin A (karoten), 60 mg vitamin B (tiamin), dan 40 mg vitamin C. Selain gizi yang terkandung dalam buah, tomat pun mempunyai rasa enak yang dipengaruhi oleh kandungan gula, asam organik dan asam amino (Mubarok et al, 2016).…”
