Fe3C/Fe/C Magnetic Hierarchical Porous Carbon with Micromesopores for Highly Efficient Chloramphenicol Adsorption: Magnetization, Graphitization, and Adsorption Properties Investigation

Abstract: Here, the magnetic hierarchical porous carbon (MHPC) with micromesopores was first prepared using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tripotassium (EDTA-3K) and iron nitrate by simultaneous magnetization/activation method. The optimal product was MHPC-20 with a high graphitization, which possessed a large S BET (1688 m2 g–1) and saturation magnetization (3.679 emu g–1). As expected, MHPC-20 had a very high maximum adsorption capacity (534.2 mg g–1) toward chloramphenicol (CAP) from water solution at 298 K with a p… Show more

“…Meanwhile, the diffraction profile for MPC700 indicated the presence of zero-valent iron (JCPDS No. 65–4899) at around 45° (110) [ 6 ]. Moreover, the diffraction region at 20–30° indicates the π-stacking of the nano-graphitic platelets of the graphite sheets.…”

“…Otherwise, this compound exhibits a strong solubility in water (2.5 g/L) according to Merck Index (2001) and offers a high degree of hydrophilicity with relatively low log Kow (1.14), and molecular polarity as illustrated in Figure 1 b. During the gradually enzymatic biodegradation in the metabolic system, substituted chlorines have a wide range of detrimental effects on habitats [ 6 ]. Several studies have indicated that the biological remediation of such pollutants is benign, but inefficient [ 7 ].…”

“…However, the equilibrium periods varied among porous carbons, specifically 20 min for Enteromorpha prolifera, 60 min for petroleum cokes and fallen leaves, and 460 min for chicken feather porous carbons. In another experiment, Dai et al ( 2018a , b , c ) witnessed that porous carbon activated by potassium acetate acquired an adsorption capacity of about 514 mg g −1 after 50 min. Meanwhile, there was insignificantly different in adsorption capacity at the equilibrium moment after 250 min since the corresponding value was 556 mg g −1 .…”

“…Many studies demonstrated that increasing temperature contributed to improved adsorption efficiency (Yang et al 2020a , b ; Zhu et al 2017 ). For example, Dai et al ( 2018a , b , c ) investigated the effect of the temperature on the adsorption of chloramphenicol onto the bovine bone-modified porous carbons. As expected, they found that the adsorption capacity obeyed the following order: 1079 mg g −1 at 25 °C, 1170 mg g −1 at 35 °C, and 1240 mg g −1 at 45 °C.…”
