Fecal microbiota transplantation relieve painful diabetic neuropathy

Abstract: Rationale:Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been used in a wide variety of diseases. In this article, we reported a 46-year-old female with diabetic neuropathy (DN) achieved remission by the treatment of FMT.Patient concerns:The patient with an 8-year history of diabetes and hypertension was admitted to hospital due to sensitive pain of her right thigh and poor blood glucose control. “…A case study [ 64 ] of a woman with type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic neuropathy showed that two rounds of FMT improved limb pain and paresthesia, which was manifested as decreased visual analogue pain score (VAS) and increased tibial nerve motor conduction velocity, without any significant improvement in EMG sensory dysfunction. In addition, the fasting blood glucose level also decreased and stabilized, and glycosylated hemoglobin content decreased post-FMT.…”

“…FMT is used mainly for the treatment of recurrent Clostridium difficile infection (rCDI) [20,21]. Except for rCDI, FMT was used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) [22], diabetes mellitus [23], autistic spectrum disorders [24], obesity [16,25], and also to reduce symptoms of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction syndrome (CIPO) or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth syndrome (SIBO) [26,27]. SIBO is a digestive disorder with an increased count and/or abnormal spectrum of the small intestinal microbial population associated with different health conditions (e.g.…”
