Since recent years, emotional intelligence (EQ) has gained prominence in the field of science education and has been widely regarded as an important element in classroom management (CM). It is known that educators with EQ have a positive effect on academic achievement and that these teachers also increase their CM. This is also reflected in school success. In addition, teachers with EQ have better CM skills. Thus, anyone with good CM skills can create a positive learning environment. In a classroom where a culture of EQ is adopted, it is important to support student motivation, make students feel valued, and focus on success. This study examines how teachers manage classrooms using EQ. Therefore, the reason for this study was to investigate whether there is a difference between teachers’ EQ levels and CM skills according to their demographic characteristics (gender, age, professional experience and educational level). The sample of this research consists of 341 teachers working at TRNC primary education institutions in the 2021–2022 academic year and determined by random method. Within the scope of the research, a Turkish version of the “Rotterdam EQ Scale” was used to measure the EQ levels of the teachers, the “CM Scale” was used to measure the effectiveness of the CM and the Personal Information Form prepared by the researchers was used. Study findings suggest that teachers’ EQ and CM skills have a positive, moderately significant relationship. This situation reveals that teachers who are aware of their own emotions and those of others, who can put themselves in others’ shoes, and who have a developed sense of empathy have better CM skills. Research results indicated that the EQ level of the teachers as well as their CM skills did not vary according to their gender, age, and seniority according to demographic variables. However, when the educational status variable is examined, although the EQ levels of postgraduate graduates are higher than those of undergraduate students, this difference was not significant.

This study made for concepts related to biotechnology research trends between the years 2000-2020 graduate thesis in the field of science in Turkey, offers a descriptive content analysis. Within the aim of the study, a total of 65 postgraduate theses were examined by scanning the database of the YOK National Thesis Center. In this study, in which document analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, was used, theses were analyzed according to years, universities, study subjects, concepts, methods, data collection tools, sampling and sample size. According to the results obtained from the findings, it has been observed that the theses are predominantly master's theses, the postgraduate theses made in the field of science education related to biotechnological concepts were carried out in a total of 27 universities and the theses were mainly done in Gazi University, İnönü University and Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University. According to the subject distribution, it has been observed that the theses are predominantly focused on learning, attitude/perception/interest and teaching. In addition, it has been concluded that quantitative studies are mostly used in the examined theses, and empirical designs among quantitative research methods are preferred more than non-experimental designs. As data collection tools, mostly skill, attitude, perception, personality, etc. tests, achievement tests, Likert type questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used and it was observed that the most preferred sample group was university and high school students and the sample size was mostly between 101-300, 31-100. Based on the results of the study, researchers can focus on more detailed analysis in biotechnology education through meta-analysis.

The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to measure basic biotechnology knowledge, examine the psychometric properties of the scale, and investigate whether there are differences in the test performances of high school students in terms of school, grade, and gender. The development phase of this scale was carried out with a sample of 388 high school students in a province in the west of Turkey. The psychometric properties of the scale were examined using the Rasch model. The K-R internal consistency coefficient of the final scale consisting of 17 items was calculated as 0.77. It was observed that item-total correlations varied between 0.25 and 0.48 except for one item (item 1, 0.13). The results of the Rasch analysis indicated that the scale fits the Rasch model and can differentiate low and high performing test takers. Three-Way ANOVA results demonstrated a significant main effect for the school. There were no statistically significant differences for grade and gender variables in terms of their biotechnology knowledge scores. However, the grade*gender interaction was statistically significant favoring males with small effect size. This observed effect was possibly due to uneven sample size of 12th grade students. The overall results suggest that the Basic Biotechnology Knowledge Scale (BBKS) can be used to assess the knowledge level of high school students.
