Fermented Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides protect UVA‐induced photoaging of human skin fibroblasts

Abstract: In this study, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), gel permeation chromatograph‐liquid chromatography (GPC‐LC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to analyze the molecular characteristics of fermented Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides (FDOP) by Lactobacillus delbrueckii bulgaricus. The characteristic structural peak of FDOP was more prominent, showing a smaller molecular structure, and its porous structure showed better water solubility. The protective effect of FDOP on the damag… Show more

“…Some flavonoids, such as quercetin, rutin, and isoquercitrin, had been reported to be correlated antioxidant activities in D. officinale, D. catenatum, and D. huoshanense [12,[19][20][21]. Some polysaccharides were also considered as functional antioxidants in D. officinale, D. huoshanense, and D. nobile [15,22,23]. Recently, high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/ MS) had been used for metabolic analysis, chemical differentiation, quality control, and pharmaceutical identification in some Dendrobium species [19,20,24].…”

“…UV‐induced ROS activates the MAPK pathway, which subsequently activates activator protein‐1 (AP‐1); followed by upregulating MMP‐1, MMP‐3, and MMP‐9. MMPs could degrade the extracellular matrix, resulting in skin folds and inelasticity (Zhang et al., 2022). Therefore, the inhibition of the above MMPs could reflect the anti‐photoaging activity.…”
