Ferrocenium Ion Confinement in Polyelectrolyte for Electrochemical Nitric Oxide Sensor

Abstract: Manuscript reports on ferrocenium ion entangled in polyelectrolyte matrix as a redox platform for oxidative and reductive sensing of nitric oxide (NO). It was prepared by oxidation of ferrocene in diethyl ether followed by extraction with polystyrene sulfonic acid (PSS) and Nafion® solution. The presence of stable ferrocenium cation was confirmed by FT-IR, UV-visible spectra, 1 HNMR and XRD. It results into a stable cyclic voltammogram in 100 mM Phosphate buffer, pH 7 solution with Ag/AgCl reference and Pt wir… Show more

“…The additional diffraction peak at 16.3° for FC‐S‐NDCN may due to the incorporation of FC into NDCN. Because of very trace amount of ferrocene content on NDCN surface to resolve the phase from observed peaks, the FC‐S‐NDCN material show low crystallinity behaviour (Figure 1) [29]. The morphology of FC‐S‐NDCN was analysed by HR‐TEM and SEM (Figure 2 & S1).…”

“…Herein, we have adopted a simple flame synthetic method to synthesise nitrogen doped carbon nanoparticles (NDCN) having high surface area as well as high porosity [28,29]. We have also established a novel synthetic route to prepare ferrocene decorated nitrogen doped carbon nanoparticles (FC-S-NDCN) without alkali treatment.…”

“…The above-mentioned suspension was placed on the surface of a GCE, and the prepared electrode was used for the amperometric determination of ascorbic acid. The stabilization of ferrocenium ions in various PE matrixes by ionic interaction and its application in NO detection was reported by Mathi et al [94]. The ferrocenium ions were prepared by the oxidation of ferrocene in diethyl ether, followed by extraction with a polystyrene sulphonic acid (PSS) or a Nafion ® solution.…”
