FI-photoinduced Chemiluminescence Method for Diuron Determination in Water Samples

Abstract: A new method for the determination of the herbicide diuron, using a flow injection manifold and photoinduced chemiluminescence detection, is presented. The pesticide, in basic medium, was irradiated on-line with UV light (254 nm) for 53 s. A short discussion about the possible irradiation products is included. The chemiluminescent response of the photoproducts was induced by oxidation with potassium ferricyanide in phosphate buffer at pH 11.5. The method permitted the quantification of diuron over the 0.1 -4.0… Show more

“…Diuron photoproducts have been reported as chemiluminescent when oxidized 38 ; although a different oxidant system was used (potassium ferricyanide in phosphate buffer at pH 11.5) in that method, a slight CL with cerium was also reported, but the concentrations of oxidant needed were higher in that case. Consequently, the decrease in the CL observed should be probably due to a cerium consumption by diuron.…”

“…Due to the high sensitivity of the technique, low detection limits can be reached with a wide range of linearity. In recent years, there have been proposed in the 4 literature a wide variety of flow-injection chemiluminescence (FI-CL) methods that allow rapid, selective and sensitive determination of pesticides such as diuron [19], paraquat [20], imazalil [21], thiram [22], asulam [23], diquat [24], carbofuran and promecarb [25,26 ], carbaryl [27] and pirimicarb [28] among others. However, to the authors' knowledge, none has been described the FI-CL method for the determination of Fenamiphos nematicide in the literature for any.…”
