“…A third useful characteristic of scaled testing is that models can be designed ad hoc to achieve specific goals (Schottler et al, 2016;Lanfazame et al, 2016;Winslow et al, 2018;Kelley et al, 2016;Bastankhah and Porté-Agel, 2017a, b;Campagnolo et al, 2016a;Bottasso and Campagnolo, 2020;Nanos et al, 2022), and can be extensively instrumented (Bottasso and Campagnolo, 2020). Advances in 3D printing (Zhu, 2019), improvements in precision manufacturing and in the realization of complex composite structures (Campagnolo et al, 2014;Bottasso et al, 2014;Parandoush and Lin, 2017), advanced sensors (Qiu et al, 2020), miniaturized actuators, wireless transmission, and other technological improvements are being actively exploited to improve model building (Bottasso and Campagnolo, 2020).
