“…For junior anaesthetists, airway workshops allow acquisition of skills and knowledge; for senior anaesthetists, they enable refreshing and updating of skills and knowledge previously learnt, and acquisition of newly developed or newly recommended skills. Regarding UK training: while many of the component techniques recommended by NAP4 and described in the DAS guidelines (2004 or 2015 ) are included in the training curriculum of the RCoA, it is notable that they are described in general terms and that specific techniques and the DAS guidelines themselves are not mentioned . Therefore, completion of this specialist training may not equate with acquisition of the skills and knowledge recommended by NAP4 and included in the DAS guidelines.…”

“…‘Technical training’ has a role in establishing psychomotor skills and knowledge of algorithms for trainees, updating those skills for more senior staff and training all staff in emerging or newly adopted techniques and algorithms. Retention of psychomotor skills has been shown to be better with frequent ‘hands on’ practical training and practical skill ‘decay’ is now well recognised .…”

“…The scope of our patient’s contracture was due not only to the extent of the initial injury, but also because her burn occurred 2 years prior to her presentation and during a time of rapid longitudinal growth. In the case of severe flexion deformity of the cervical spine, flexible fiberoptic‐aided intubation may be difficult because of the backward displacement of the larynx against the posterior pharyngeal wall (2). Our report illustrates the usefulness of the GlideScope ® in patients in whom the C‐spine was fixed in a fully flexed position.…”

“…Restricted movement of the cervical spine and atlanto-occipital joint contribute to the difficulty of intubation using direct laryngoscopy. Awake intubation using a flexible fibre optic scope is considered standard practice when managing anticipated difficult airways [1]. Video and optical laryngoscopes have performed well when compared with Macintosh direct laryngoscopy in patients with restricted neck movements [2][3].…”
