Field investigations of high stress soft surrounding rocks and deformation control

Abstract: a b s t r a c tField investigations of high stress soft rock deformations show that the high stress soft rock roadway can slide with large deformation. Severe extrusion and floor heave can also be subsequently observed. The supported roadway can be locally damaged or completely fail, where the floor has a large deformation and/or is seriously damaged. The factors inducing large deformation of surrounding rocks in deep roadway are rock strengths, structure face cutting types, stress states, stress release, supp… Show more

“…When driving a roadway in poor geological conditions, such as weak rock mass and soft coal mass, the rheological deformation of the roadway is more serious. To maintain roadway stability, some traditional support techniques such as a bolting system, shotcrete, and steel sets have been utilized in some cases [9][10][11][12][13]. However, most support systems fail over time because of the rheological displacement of the surrounding rock mass.…”

“…Kajzar et al carried out coal pillar deformation and coal roof monitoring by applying 3D laser technology within underground roadways [7]. Yu et al investigated surrounding rock deformation and roadway convergence by laser range instruments [8]. Martino and Chandler studied surrounding rock deformation and damage zone evolution behaviors by using a borehole camera image [9].…”

“…Deep underground engineering is no longer a single difficult problem but has caused various and multiple impacts. Many scientific problems such as high ground temperature [1,2], high stress [3,4], high gas [5,6], strong impact, long-term creep of rock [7,8], various disturbances, and complex geological structures [9][10][11][12][13] have attracted wide attention of many scholars. e stability problem of the coal-rock combination system refers to two or more types of different rock combination systems under various extreme environments in roadway or chamber engineering.…”
