This study was aimed to investigate the effect of problem based learning to environmental literacy for junior high school in environmental pollution subject. The study of students’ environmental literacy covered three aspects, there were knowledge, attitudes, and cognitive skills. The research methods used quasi-experimental and non-equivalent control group design. The sample of this research was seventh grade students in junior high school consisting of 27 experimental class students and 25 control class students. The instruments used in this study were multiple choice questions for aspects of knowledge and cognitive skills with Jatigede Reservoir as an environmental content, Likert scale questionnaires for attitude aspects, observation sheets of problem based learning syntax and student questionnaire in learning problem based learning. Pre test was given to the experimental and control class before learning begun and post test was given to the experimental and control class after the last learning was held. The results showed that the knowledge aspect showed a significant difference which meant that there was an influence from the results of the treatment given, while the aspect of cognitive attitude and skills did not show a significant difference, which meant there was no influence from the results of the treatment given. The achievement of the syntax of problem based learning is in the category of almost all activities. Students’ responses to the implementation of problem based learning showed an agreed response.

Community service activities are a mandatory responsibility for university lecturers as part of the Tri Dharma. This research aimed to investigate attitudes and behaviors towards environmental conservation and analyze the impact of theme-based learning on children in Sei Tuan Village, contributing to broader community-level efforts to protect and preserve the environment. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving both qualitative and quantitative paradigms to collect and analyze data from 13 children residing in Sei Tuan Village, Deli Serdang Regency. A Pre-Test – Treatment – Post-Test methodology and observations were utilized in conducting the research. The results revealed that 85% of children in Sei Tuan Village demonstrated proficiency in distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy environments. Additionally, all individuals exhibited concern for the environment, including methods of preservation and the benefits of a pristine environment. Notably, 77% of students received comprehensive instruction on categorizing trash into organic, inorganic, and hazardous types. Moreover, 88.5% of individuals articulated positive effects resulting from nurturing environmental affection. Theme-based learning was found to enhance children's recognition of environmental and climate change issues, sparking their interest in learning, particularly in applying basic English vocabulary to care for and protect the environment.

Field trips are integral to biology education, providing students with hands-on experiences that bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. This study explores the impact of field trips on practical skill acquisition among biology students in Colleges of Education in Anambra State, Nigeria. Grounded in Piaget's developmental theory, the research examines how field trips enhance observational skills, critical thinking abilities, and environmental stewardship. Surveys conducted with 330 second-year biology education students reveal that field trips positively influence students' ability to recall facts, understand concepts, and excel in practicals. However, challenges such as financial constraints, large class sizes, and teacher commitment hinder the effectiveness of field trips. Strategies like subsidizing trip costs and encouraging small group activities are recommended to optimize field trip experiences. The study revealed several key findings regarding the role and challenges of field trips in biology education. Respondents highlighted that engaging in field activities aids students in recalling facts, learning through observation, and developing a deep understanding of concepts. These activities also help students improve their ability to evaluate scientific inquiries and excel in practical aspects of their education, indicating a positive influence of field trips on practical skill acquisition. The findings underscore the significance of field trips in biology education and advocate for greater institutional support to make these excursions more accessible and impactful for students.
