“…For this purpose, custom‐made prototype magnetic separators have been developed with a wide variety of approaches of shape, sizes, and magnetic background field but still following the classical fixed matrix design. Rolled or staged wire meshes or filamentary rod constructions are favored as a defined matrix structure . The use of these matrix designs results in good separation performances with over 90% of MP separation from the feed‐streams, but the resuspension efficiency needed in order to wash and recover the MP from the system for further use has been mostly ignored.…”

“…In several prior studies, the retention of magnetic particles on different matrices has been analyzed. In for example filter matrices without movable parts were studied. The magnetic separator that corresponds to the rotor‐stator principle was used usually with circular filter plates and rounded notches .…”

“…Previously, matrices of different size or shapes, different arrangements were manufactured to do experiments to optimize the HGMS system (Too et al, 1986;Badescu et al, 1996;Ebner et al, 2007;Kim et al, 2013;Padmanabhan and Sreenivas, 2011;Chen et al, 2014). However, as there are so many factors influencing the recovery efficiency, the quantitative analyses of these factors were not done systematically.…”
