Finite Element Analysis for the Behavior of Reinforced Concrete T-Section Deep Beams Strengthened with CFRP Sheets

Abstract: This paper presents a numerical investigation for the behavior of simply supported T-section deep beams, which strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets. The used specimens were (1.8 m length), (450 mm width and 100 mm depth) flange dimensions, and (180 mm width and 360 mm depth) web dimensions. The specimens were divided into four groups. Mainly, the difference between specimens in each group is in the main reinforcement details. The control group consisted of six beams unstrengthen with… Show more

“…Furthermore, there is a strong relationship between the confined concrete's strength and the FRP wrapping's strength. The ruptured CFRP-wrapped confined concrete strain is lower than the obtained ultimate strain for the CFRP tensile strength (Ali et al, 2020;Micelli et al, 2018). Fitzwilliam et al (Fitzwilliam & Bisby, 2010) stated that the utilization of longitudinal CFRP wraps reduced the lateral deflections in the columns and increased the ability to use slender columns to achieve greater strengths (Olivova & Bilcik, 2009;Wang et al, 2012).…”

“…The parametric study evaluated the influence of several opening sizes with/without CFRP on the STM, the load-deflection response, and the stress distribution of the RC deep beam. The finite element model, used in the study, has been validated in several previously published works [29][30][31].…”

“…The two-dimensional truss elements can be used in axisymmetric models to represent components, such as bolts or connectors [33]. Several studies [29][30][31]34] have adopted this mathematical representation to represent the steel reinforcement due to the identical rep-…”

“…Also, they study the behavior of the beam after strengthening around the opening by CFRP laminates concluding that the beam strength increased to approximately 54% of the original structural capacity of beams. Noorwirdawati [15] studied five reinforced concrete beams with opening strengthening by CFRP sheet. They conclude that the load carrying capacity of the beam has increased from 7.5% to 19.6% due to the addition of CFRP sheet as reinforcing material.…”
