Finite Element Analysis of Large Plastic Deformation Process of Pure Molybdenum Plate during Hot Rolling

Abstract: The rare molybdenum resources are being increasingly used in heavy industries. In this study, the common unidirectional and cross hot rolling operations, for pure molybdenum plates, were numerically simulated by using MSC. Marc software. An elastic–plastic finite element model was employed, together with the updated Lagrange method, to predict stress and strain fields in the workpiece. The results showed that there was a typical three-dimensional additional compressive stress (σy > σz > σx) in the deform… Show more

“…In terms of the materials studied, aluminum alloys and steels are the most tested materials, being present in eleven and ten of the articles included in Table 1, respectively. In other studies, simulations of rolling processes have been carried out for titanium [24,34,35,43], copper [32,38], magnesium [28,39,45], and molybdenum [40] alloys and nickel-based superalloys [25,42]. In four papers, clad plates consisting of two different materials [32,35,45,48] have been studied.…”

“…This results in a second essential attribute of the class, namely, the "symmetry attribute." If, as in most published models [10,[24][25][26], it is assumed that the (heavy plate) rolling process meets a good approximation of top-bottom symmetry (from now on referred to as horizontal symmetry), activating the horizontal symmetry plane in the model is expedient. Four modeling variants result from combining the consideration or rejection of horizontal and vertical symmetry.…”

“…Jiao et al analysed the rolling force and the roll flattening radius of a five-stand tandem cold mill using the iterative method during online process control [8]. Several researchers have proposed analytical models to calculate the rolling force of crossed-pair hot rolling mills [13,14]. Other researchers have investigated strip profiles in asymmetrical cold rolling, investigating the influence of work roll crossing and roll shifting on the rolling force using both numerical and experimental methods [15][16][17][18].…”
