Finite Element Method-Based Simulation Creep Behavior of Viscoelastic Carbon-Fiber Composite

Abstract: Usually, a polymer composite with a viscoelastic response matrix has a creep behavior. To predict this phenomenon, a good knowledge of the properties and mechanical constants of the material becomes important. Schapery’s equation represents a basic relation to study the nonlinear viscoelastic creep behavior of composite reinforced with carbon fiber (matrix made by polyethrtethrtketone (PEEK) and epoxy resin). The finite element method (FEM) is a classic, well known and powerful tool to determine the overall en… Show more

“…Because of the combination of excellent chemical resistance, thermal stability, and mechanical properties [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], polyetheretherketone (PEEK), a kind of semi-crystalline polymer, and its composites have attracted a great deal of interest from both scientists and engineers [ 4 ]. These kinds of polymers possess great potential to replace conventional metal materials because of their high strength-to-weight ratios, especially for the aviation and space industry [ 5 ].…”

“…Such synergy, as we have already established earlier, can be complex reinforcement, namely, fiber plus reinforcing bars, improved concrete characteristics due to their nanomodification or the same fiber reinforcement with fibers [ 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 ]. However, in addition to the above methods, it is also promising to create so-called differentiated building elements, particularly in their cross section [ 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”

“…Mineral impregnated carbon fiber composites are a new type of reinforcement for construction. Compared to steel reinforcement, carbon fiber reinforcement has a much higher tensile strength and a significantly lower weight [ 22 , 24 , 31 , 33 , 35 , 38 , 39 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 47 , 49 , 51 , 55 , 59 ]. At present, the technology of reinforcing concrete bending elements with carbon fiber sheets is popular [ 44 , 59 ].…”
