“Finola” Cannabis Cultivation for Cannabinoids Production in Thessaloniki-Greece

Abstract: Cannabis has garnered a great deal of new attention in the past couple of years due to the increasing hopes of its legalization for recreational use and indications for medicinal benefit. The increasing consumption and cultivation has led to a multiplication of scientific studies. Focus was placed in this study foremost on yielding morphological data (length of the plant, inflorescence fresh and dry weight) for appropriate mechanical harvest and biochemical cannabinoids analysis of the industrial cannabis &… Show more

“…This is quite significant in terms of harvesting; since THC is a banned substance in consumer products, it would be preferable to harvest the tops after the second harvest (higher CBD content), albeit there were higher concentrations of cannabinoids after the third harvest at week 9. Besides, in hot and dry conditions, the late stage of growth may sometimes result in THC levels over 0.2%; as such, harvesting at the earlier stage of growth is preferable [47]. This would give a higher CBD:THC ratio, which would make purification of CBD via short-path distillation and crystallization significantly easier.…”

“…Grain-type cultivars like Finola and CFX-1 typically produce low quantities of all cannabinoids and were expected to produce less than 0.03% THC (Pavlovic et al, 2019;Fadel et al, 2020). Premier Tech, Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada).…”

“…This cultivar is dioecious, Horticulturae 2023, 9, 1241 2 of 13 independent of the photoperiod, and interesting due to its very short cycle of fewer than 3 months, with early sowing and flowering needed. This cultivar is characterized by its low branching, small size, small seeds, and low biomass recovery [10]. Indeed, 'Finola' has high potential at a commercial level and could be used in super-intensive production models of protected environments, allowing significant water savings [11].…”
