Artificial intelligence (AI) era challenges the use and functions of emotion in college students and the students’ college life is often experienced as an emotional rollercoaster, negative and positive emotion can affect the emotional outcomes, but we know very little about how students can ride it most effectively to increase their creativity. We introduce frustration tolerance as a mediator and emotion regulation as a moderator to investigate the mechanism of creativity improvement under negative emotion. Drawing on a sample of 283 students from professional music colleges or music major in normal universities, we find that negative emotion are generally associated with a lower creativity, while frustration tolerance can mediate the relationship between negative emotion and creativity, but these effects depend on the emotion regulation. Cognitive reappraisal exerts a negative effect on the relationship between negative emotion and creativity, while expressive suppression has the opposite effect. Our study contributes to the literatures on student’s emotions and creativity in music education and to the emotion regulation literature.

The World Economic Forum (WEF), at the end of 2020, has issued a report that one of the most critical skills in the future is creativity. Vocational teachers as central learning facilitators must be able to accommodate a learning atmosphere that supports students' creativity. The integration of creativity skills and the use of technology is necessary, considering that we have entered the era of digitalization of education and industry. On the other hand, students are currently Generation Z and Generation Alpha, which are digital natives. In the field, teachers at Vocational High School (VHS) 1 Probolinggo do not yet fully have a variety of e-learning media development tools that can accommodate the creativity skill needs of their students. The purpose of this community service activity is to train and assist teachers of VHS 1 Probolinggo as one of the Vocational High Schools of Excellence in Office Management and Business Services. Teachers acquire training and assistance to develop learning media and models that accommodate students' creativity skills in the digital era. The analysis results show that after being given training and mentoring, teachers at VHS 1 Probolinggo have skills in developing media and implementing learning models that support student’s creative skills in the digital era. Thus, it is considered capable of supporting government programs in improving the quality of human resources through the Center of Excellence Vocational School (SMK Pusat Keunggulan) program.

Creativity among ICT professionals and students in Thailand

Creativity and innovation related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leads to improved competitiveness among individuals, organizations, and nations. In the context of the cultural profile of the developing nation of Thailand, this exploratory study examines the practical problem of improving creativity among ICT professionals and students. The study compares the importance of creativity perceived by ICT lecturers and managers and the extent to which ICT students and officers believe that they display creativity. The purpose is to align perceptions about creativity among these groups in order to promote creativity in ICT. Creativity is characterized by traits derived from studies in neuroscience and this study contributes to the validation of this relatively new approach. Data is collected by questionnaire from: 182 students distributed across the 4 years of ICT bachelor degree programs in three universities in Bangkok and 126 lecturers in these programs; 190 ICT managers and 210 ICT officers from 60 organizations in Bangkok. The findings identify: differences (gaps) among the groups' perceptions of creativity; and possible influences due to cultural characteristics of Thai society. The number of gaps is greatest between lecturers and managers followed by lecturers and students and managers and officers. The gaps are noticeable between males and females but less evident in relation to levels of education and ICT experience. The findings provide practical insights relevant to ICT academics, educators, practicing ICT professionals, and those concerned with the relationships among creativity, innovation, and competitiveness at organizational or national levels, especially in developing nations.
