First outbreak of glanders in Nepal and possible implications for the animal sector

Abstract: Burkholderia mallei, One Health, quarantine, re-emerging disease, zoonosis Glanders is caused by the nonmotile gram-negative bacterium Burkholderia mallei and primarily affects horses, but mules and donkeys are also affected. The disease in animals is characterized by respiratory, cutaneous and lymphatic nodular lesions
