First report of coriander leaf blight diseases caused by Cladosporium tenuissimum in China and analysis of metabolic alterations related to pathogenic processes

Abstract: Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is a medicinal and aromatic plant. From November 2017 to March 2020, leaf blight disease on coriander plants was frequently observed in commercial coriander cultivated fields of Haikou, Sanya and Wanning City, Hainan Province, China. Leaves with symptoms showed irregular chlorotic to dark brown necrotic lesions at the edges of leaves, and the leaves were curled and covered with a layer of grey mould. Based on morphological characteristics, pathogenicity testing and concatenated s… Show more

“…Thus, this finding highlights the occurrence of O. leptostyla that cause losses in walnut cultivation. C. tenuissimum is a quite common saprobic species isolated from numerous substrates, and is the agent of leaf spot or blight disease in China ( Han et al, 2019 ; Li et al, 2021 ; Xie et al, 2022 ; Zhou et al, 2022 ). However, the isolates of P. byssoides , which have been verified based on molecular data, are saprobic on host plants in Vitaceae, Apiaceae, Cornaceae, Cannabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Magnoliaceae, Fabaceae, and Rosaceae ( Yang et al, 2022 ).…”

“…D-mannose belongs to the lectin family, responsible for the action of resistance when infected with pathogens (Hwang and Hwang 2011). Threonic acid and myo-inositol were reported to play a role in the plant response to the endophytic fungus Cladosporium tenuissimum (Zhou et al 2022). In this study, two categories of resistance were also compared using OPLS-DA.…”

“…Several fungal pathogens are responsible for causing leaf spot diseases on coriander plants worldwide, such as Ulocladium oblongoobovoideum, Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Colletotrichum capsica, Cercospora corianderi, Phoma multirostrata, and Cladosporium tenuissimum [8][9][10][11]. Among phytopathogens, the genus Alternaria is one of the most important, comprising a great number of pathogens that lead to large-scale losses in several crops [12,13].…”
