“…Diseases have continuously and significantly impacted crop yield. For instance, plant scab, bacterial wilt, and soft rot of plants have brought about the greatest economic losses in recent years [1–3] . More specifically, the typical bacteria that cause these diseases are Streptomyces acidiscabies ( S. acidiscabies ), Ralstonia solanacearum ( R. solanacearum ), and Erwinia carotovora subsp carotovora borgey ( E. carotovora subsp carotovora borgey) which affect plants, including potatoes, beets, carrots, and tomatoes [4–6] .…”

“…As these other vegetable crops often occur in rotation with potato in the same fields, the risk of carryover of Pbr from one crop to the next is important to ascertain. Indeed, Pbr has been previously reported from multiple hosts, including a number of vegetables such as kale (Queiroz et al., 2017), cucumber (Meng et al., 2017), zucchini and cabbage (Waleron et al., 2015), tomato (Rosskopf & Hong, 2016), pepper (Gillis et al., 2017), artichoke (Cariddi & Bubici, 2016), and pumpkin (Moraes et al., 2017). Again, our results showed no conclusive evidence for differentiation between populations present on vegetables compared to those on potato, although the PFGE analysis tended to differentiate one cluster containing primarily strains from potato from another with a majority of strains from other hosts.…”

“…Since then, it has been identified in many parts of the world (de Boer et al, 2012;Fujimoto et al, 2017;van der Merwe et al, 2010;Onkendi & Moleleki, 2014;Pitman et al, 2008). Although most studies describe Pbr on potato, this species has also been reported on 19 different plant species belonging to 10 families, including tomato (Rosskopf & Hong, 2016), pepper (Gillis et al, 2017), eggplant (Lee et al, 2014), tobacco (Wang et al, 2017), kale (Queiroz et al, 2017), sugar beet (Secor et al, 2016), pumpkin (Moraes et al, 2017), zucchini and cabbage (Waleron et al, 2015), cucumber (Meng et al, 2017), and artichoke (Cariddi & Bubici, 2016). In addition, chrysanthemum, cyclamen, papaya, cotton, and banana were recently identified as host plants for Pbr (Oulghazi et al, 2021;Portier et al, 2020).…”
