First Result from Scrit Electron Scattering Facility : Charge Density Distribution Of 132 Xe

Abstract: We have constructed the SCRIT electron scattering facility at RIKEN in order to realize electron scattering off unstable nuclei. Because electron scattering is the most powerful and reliable tool to study the internal structure of the atomic nuclei as demonstrated for many stable nuclei in the latter half of the 20th century, actualization of electron scattering for the unstable nuclei has been long awaited. Recently, we have performed a series of elastic electron scattering experiments with 132 Xe target. The… Show more

“…The trapping periods of Ion IN and Ion OUT occur alternately with a gap of 10 msec, and the each trapping time is equally set to 240 msec to maximize the luminosity or 990 msec for a study of trapping phenomena using LMon, as described later. The physics result from the 132 Xe experiment is reported elsewhere in this proceedings [5], and the performances of the SCRIT detectors that were measured using the experiment data are described in the following sections.…”

“…Construction began in 2009, and a commissioning experiment has been performed [5,6]. Recently, we completed the first electron elastic scattering by 132 Xe and deduced its charge density distribution precisely [7]. Radioactive isotope (RI) production began in 2013, and an intense RI beam for experiments with short-lived nuclei is under development.…”
