Fisetin averts oxidative stress in pancreatic tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Abstract: Persistent hyperglycemia is associated with chronic oxidative stress which contributes to the development and progression of diabetes-associated complications. The sensitivity of pancreatic β-cells to oxidative stress has been attributed to their low content of antioxidants compared with other tissues. Bioactive compounds with potent antidiabetic properties have been shown to ameliorate hyperglycemia mediated oxidative stress. Recently, we have reported that oral administration of fisetin (10 mg/Kg b.w.), a bi… Show more

“…In addition, the CS-induced inflammatory cell population in BALF was markedly reduced in fisetin-treated rats supporting the preventive effects of fisetin against CS-induced lung tissue damage. Supporting our findings, fisetin has been shown to rescue different organs from inflammation-induced tissue damage (Feng, Jiang, Sun, Fu, & Li, 2016;Prasath, Sundaram, & Subramanian, 2013;Sahu et al, 2014).…”

“…Fisetin supplementation has been reported to exhibit hypocholesterolemic effects by modulating the expression of genes associated with cholesterol and bile acid metabolism . Recently, we have evaluated the antidiabetic, antioxidant, and tissue protective nature of fisetin in streptozotocin (STZ)‐induced experimental diabetic rats . In the present study, an attempt is made to explore the antihyperlipidemic role of fisetin in STZ‐induced experimental diabetic rats.…”

“…Recently, several researchers worked on the antioxidant potential of fisetin by performing various tests. [18][19][20] Wherein Phenolic hydroxyl groups are prone to donate a hydrogen atom to free radicals and extend conjugated aromatic system to delocalize an unpaired electron. 21 DPPH radical scavenging activity guided isolation of acetone extract of E. indica yielded a flavonol compound, i.e.…”
