Five 1D to 3D Zn(ii)/Mn(ii)-CPs based on dicarboxyphenyl-terpyridine ligand: stepwise adsorptivity and magnetic properties

Abstract: Five coordination polymers with different dimensional structures have been solvothermally synthesized by utilizing H2dtp ligand. Complexes1and2reveal strong solid-state luminescence, and complexes3–5display antiferromagnetic exchange.

“…It is interesting to note that the change in topology is associated with a change from the monoclinic P2 1 /n space group to the orthorhombic Fdd2 space group. [Zn (9)] n •2nMeOH•nNMP exhibits a high capture capacity for CO 2 with an unusual multistep gas-adsorption process [34].…”

“…As Figure 23b illustrates, the structure is not easy to envisage. [Zn 2 (34) 4 ] n •2nH 2 O is also a 2D-network, but in this assembly, 34is ditopic and coordinates through one pyridine ring and the carboxylate group. Figure 23c shows the coordination modes of the two independent ligands.…”

“…This matter can be attributed to the diverse applications of coordination polymers in various fields beside their structural beauties and appealing features. [ 1 ] These materials have found several applications in fields like catalysts, [ 2 ] magnetic materials, [ 3 ] drug delivery, [ 4 ] bioinorganic chemistry, [ 5 ] energy conversion and storage, [ 6 ] medicine, [ 7 ] sensor science, [ 8 ] optical materials [ 9 ] and many other fields. Generally, self‐assembly of suitable ligands with metal ions in a solvent is the common and comprehensive methods for production of coordination polymers.…”

“…Another example of tpy‐MOF is {[Zn(dtp)] ⋅ 2CH 3 OH ⋅ NMP} [28] (dtp=4′‐(3,5 dicarboxyphenyl)‐2,2′:6′,2′′‐ terpyridine; NMP= N ‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone), which absorbs an adequate amount of CO 2 . In a three‐step adsorption isotherm, the initial step shows an adsorption of about 11.4 cm 3 g −1 CO 2 , and in the second step (about P / P 0 =0.06–0.4), an adsorption of about 151.2 cm 3 g −1 CO 2 is observed.…”
