Flavobacterium amniphilum sp. nov., isolated from a stream

Abstract: Strain KYPY10, isolated from a water sample taken from the Funglin Stream in Taiwan, was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Cells of strain KYPY10 were Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, motile by gliding, rod-shaped surrounded by a thick capsule, and formed light-yellow colonies. Growth occurred at 20-30 °C (optimum, 25 °C), at pH 6-7 (optimum, pH 6) and with 0-0.2 % NaCl (optimum, 0 % w/v). Phylogenetic analyses, based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, showed that strain KYPY10 belonged to th… Show more

“…Cell morphology was determined by transmission electron microscope, using cells grown on R2A agar (MB-R1129, MB-cell) medium for 2 days at 30 • C. Growth on different media, such as nutrient agar (213000, BD-Difco), R2A agar, Luria-Bertani agar (22700-025, Invitrogen, Carlsbad, CA, USA), MacConkey agar (211387, BD-Difco) and tryptic soy agar (C7121, Criterion), was investigated after 7 days of incubation at 30 • C. Growth at various temperatures (from 5 to 40 • C) and different pH values (from 4 to 10) was checked on R2A agar and R2A broth medium, respectively, after 5 days of incubation at 30 • C. NaCl tolerance test and anaerobic growth ability of strain MAHUQ-38 T were conducted according to the previous description [17]. Availability of flexirubin type of pigments were examined according to Sheu et al [32]. Activities of oxidase, catalase, urease DNase, and hydrolysis of gelatin, casein, starch, Tweens 80 and 20 were investigated according to previous description [17].…”

“…The primary fatty acids C16 and C15 have been identified in the Flavobacterium genera [ 77 ]. However, unsaturated fatty acids distinguished the Flavobacterium genus from those previously reported [ 78 - 80 ]. C16:1 is the predominant fatty acid in 50.06 percent of JSWR-1, whereas C15 is the predominant fatty acid found in Flavobacterium species isolated from marine sediments [ 81 ].…”

“…The previously published articles listed in the References [1–50] contained the phrase ‘Summed features are groups of two or three fatty acids that are treated together for the purpose of evaluation in the MIDI system and include both peaks with discrete ECLs as well as those where the ECLs are not reported separately’, which was taken from and consequently should have cited the following article:…”
