“…Chemically and pharmacologically, the American Litsea species are poorly known. A survey of flavonoids has been reported for L. glaucescens (López et al 1995), as well as an analysis of the essential oil of the leaves of L. glaucescens (Tucker et al 1992) and L. guatemalensis Mez (Vallverdú et al 2005). The aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Litsea guatemalensis leaves showed mild inhibition in vitro against Epidermophyton floccosum (Harz) Langeron et Miloch., Microsporum canis E. Bodin ex.…”

“…Its leaves have been traditionally used as food seasoning, as well as remedy in folk medicine against central nervous system illness, depression, colic, pain, vomit, and diarrhea [ 21 ]. These activities are mainly related to the presence of different compounds such as terpenes and phenolic compounds [ 22 , 23 ]. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the seasonal effect on the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and the antiproliferative activities of L. glaucescens Kunth leaves extracts, as well as on their content and profile of phenolic compounds, since to the best of our knowledge, this is the first effort to describe at this level the biological properties and chemical composition of “laurel,” commonly used as a remedy by the communities from the mountainous region of Veracruz, México.…”

“…The species L. rubescene and L. peduncalt have long been used in traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of gastroenterologia, oedema and rheumatic arthritis [3]. Most Litsea plants contain alkaloids, flavonoids [4], terpenes [5], lactone [6] and volatile oils constitution [7]. Several biologically active compounds were isolated and their structures have been elucidated by many researchers [3, 8].…”
