The rock type in Panxi area is changing from gabbro type to olivine pyroxene type, which makes it difficult for enterprises to obtain better beneficiation indexes at present. In order to solve this problem, we use a variety of modern test techniques, such as zeta potential measurements, Fouriertransform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, adsorption amount measurements, and mineral-reagent interaction energy simulation to analyze the influence of particle size on mineral flotation behavior and the interaction of fine-grained minerals in this paper. The experiments results indicate that the presence of fine-grained (-19 um) mineral particles is deleterious to the flotation of ilmenite, the ilmenite recovery decreases as the microfine grade content of pyroxene and olivine increases, distribution of narrow size minerals is beneficial to the minerals flotation performance, and the order of sodium oleate (NaOL) adsorption strength on different ilmenite crystal planes is (1011) > (0001). The research results of this paper deepen the understanding of the olivine type ilmenite resources in Panxi area, enrich the theoretical system of flotation separation of refractory ilmenite, and provide theoretical support for the key technical problems of flotation separation of ilmenite in Panxi area.

In this work, a complete beneficiation technical route combining physical and chemical methods, namely a roasting-flotation-leaching scheme, is proposed to produce a qualified grade Ti-concentrate from altered Vanadium titanomagnetite (VTM) ore. Based on the character of the ore sample, it is recommended to recover the Ti-bearing minerals, ilmenite and anatase, as composite mineral. Pretreatment experiments indicate that the oxidation roasting (800 °C) and acid washing methods increase the flotation indexes significantly. Flotation condition tests show that the optimal conditions are a grinding fineness of −0.045 mm 83%, sulfuric acid dosage of 2000 g/t, water glass dosage of 1500 g/t, oxalic acid dosage of 200 g/t, and EM328 dosage of 1500 g/t. An open flotation circuit test obtains a flotation concentrate with a TiO2 grade and recovery of 38.30% and 25.99%, respectively. A leaching exploration test shows that the TiO2 grade of the flotation concentrate can be improved to 53.90%. XRD analyses reveal that the ilmenite in the VTM ore is converted into anatase and rutile during the roasting process at 600–800 °C, but pseudobrookite begins to form at 900 °C. Compared to the flotation concentrate, it is confirmed that the content of Ti-bearing minerals is increased significantly in the leaching residue.

Coffee grounds are the most significant production waste in the coffee industry and contain about 15% coffee oil. Coffee oil is rich in fatty acids and polyphenols, which have great application potential in the flotation of oxidized minerals. In this study, coffee oil as a green flotation collector for ilmenite was investigated by micro-flotation, zeta potential measurement, and foam stability analysis. The results of zeta potential reveal that both coffee oil and MOH can be adsorbed on the ilmenite surface at pH 6.7, and the chemical adsorption mode is dominant. However, when the pH is 2.8, the adsorption capacity of coffee oil on the ilmenite surface is much larger than that of MOH. The pH value of the pulp has little effect on the foam properties in the coffee oil solution and has a great influence on the foaming performance and foam stability of the MOH solution. When coffee oil is used as a collector, the grade of TiO2 in ilmenite concentrate is increased from 21.68% to 46.83%, and the recovery is 90.22%, indicating that the potential of coffee oil in the application of ilmenite flotation is large.
